THE SEPTEMBER 2023 YARD OF THE MONTH IS……
Congratulations to Amanda and Joe Barbarito; the Yard of the Month selection for September. They moved to Pebble Creek in 2017 and have since made some beautiful improvements to their yard at 11 Hoppin John.
Growing up on a farm, Amanda’ parents taught her to appreciate the value of insects and how they are essential to a healthy and natural environment. All her plantings were selected with insects in mind and the birds they attract. On our tour of their yard, Amanda pointed out Monarch caterpillars on milkweed plants which is their primary food source. Also, among the lantana, cockscombs, and autumn sedum were honeybees, a Green Lynx spider, and a few lizards.
A key feature of the Barbarito’s backyard is a beautiful pond with Koi and turtles. Trumpet vines, hibiscus, and butterfly bushes are planted around a patio and the pond which attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Meeting Amanda was a delight and we thoroughly enjoyed her enthusiasm for nature.

THE JULY 2023 YARD OF THE MONTH IS……
Congratulations to Erycka and Trevor Millen, 4 Honeybee, the July Yard of the Month selection. Their hard work has really paid off with a healthy lawn, new retaining wall and functional dry creek beds.
“First, what an honor to get this recognition despite feeling like the entire landscape is a constant work in progress! That said, maintaining the yard has been a foundation we’ve not sacrificed as work to improve other areas and planters continues. Keys to success for us have really been quarterly weed and fertilizer treatments (top turf) and constant communication with our mowing service over the Summer (Tiger Stripes) to promote health, growth, and help clean up the drainage that lands in the street. There is always more to do, but maintaining the parts we know are strengths and communication with those that help us keep it great has been key to our success. As we continue work over the years, a lot of attention will go to fixing drainage issues with more dedicated drainage ditches and grass work on the sides of the yard/property. Thanks again!” - Erycka Millen
THE JUNE 2023 YARD OF THE MONTH IS……

Congratulations to Michael and Donna Minnix at 15 Hoppin John Lane! Michael Says, “Hi, we didn't see this coming, but thanks so much for the award. With all the extra time off because of Covid, I put extra time into the yard to have something to do. The house was long overdue and I'm sure my neighbors are happy . I feel it's everyone’s duty to take pride in your home. If we all share this, our home values will prevail. I shop with the locals at Twin Bridge and Country Boys, lots of hands on.” Congratulations for being selected! Your hard work is duly noted and appreciated.

Congrats to Eric & Mary Beth Williams at 115 Whittlin Way. “We love the community aspect of Pebble Creek! It’s a work in progress, but we are looking forward to calling Pebble Creek home for a long time!”

Mark and Linda Forthaus at 132 Pebble Creek Drive. "Linda and I really appreciate the recognition and feel honored to be selected for yard of the month. We both really love the outdoors and the immediate gratification of nice landscaping. Our yard is not finished yet but getting to look more how we envisioned it when we bought the house almost a year and a half ago. We still have plans for it to be the outdoor living space we will enjoy for years to come with our family and friends, and love living in such a beautiful neighborhood with such really great neighbors. Linda is the landscape artist and I enjoy doing the work to make her vision come to life. We are a great team and have fun doing it together."
THE YARD OF THE MONTH FOR may IS…
Congratulations to Ken and Debbie Jones of 16 Honeybee Lane, who have called Pebble Creek home for over 30 years. As Ken states, "We originally bought our home here because of the park-like natural atmosphere and quiet neighborhood. Debbie and I enjoy working on the wooded lot and relaxing in the outdoors. Trees, shrubs, and grasses absorb sound, stop soil erosion, and provide shelter for many birds and animals. We work to keep as much of the lot as natural as possible yet groomed. We enjoy our neighbors with most of them being long-term residents, as well." Whether you're new to the community or are a "long termer," everyone appreciates the efforts of our neighbors to make Pebble Creek a beautiful place to call home. Thanks, Ken and Debbie!

Jane and Bill Williamson have lived in their beautiful home at 108 Sassafras Drive for 41 years. "Whether you are a newcomer or a longtime resident, we all love Pebble Creek, and we can all learn from each other," the Williamsons explained. "We love azaleas and dogwoods! Every year we are amazed how the little stick-like branches produce such beautiful flowers. Our biggest challenge has been finding a grass that will flourish in both sun and shade. Right now we have fescue and red creeping fescue with a little bit of centipede. Most of the azaleas close to the house were started with clippings and are a replacement for 35 year old azaleas and need a few more years to be really pretty.” We think they’re just beautiful already! Congratulations to Jane and Bill W. for bringing in Spring with JOY!

Sometimes Duke Energy does you a favor. After taking two massive trees out of the front yard at 303 Roberts Road, the exterior elevation was flooded with sunlight. Cathy and Stephen Lawton went to work and what they created was curb appeal. Grass began to spread and thrive. Two “islands” of spot color were created using purple blooms. The pink crape myrtles were left unpruned and reach for the skies. Stephen’s philosophy is “to do as little as you can on a regular basis” to keep things neat and tidy. Congrats on a job well done!
AND THE YARD OF THE MONTH FOR october IS…
On a crisp early fall day, we were greeted by the Moore family. New homeowners Brittany, Josh, and baby Jackson have lovingly restored the house located at 202 Sassafras Drive. The yard has been re-landscaped and demonstrates their philosophy towards home ownership. As Josh states, “We like a clean, simple, and easy maintenance landscape that shows well, but won't take up your whole weekend. Progress over perfection. Less is more.” From all the neighbors in Phase 1 Pebble Creek HOA, we say congratulations on a job well done.
AND THE YARD OF THE MONTH FOR september IS…
On many of our morning walks, we as neighbors admire the handiwork of Joseph and Nadine LaPenna. The home at 200 Pebble Creek Drive features a mature landscaping plan that is visually interesting in its simplicity. As Nadine states, “We enjoy simplicity and easy maintenance but we take pride in caring for what we have been blessed with. We have an appreciation for the beauty in God’s creation and as in every area of our life, we don’t want to take that for granted. Having a pretty yard is comforting to our family as it promotes a welcoming atmosphere for our friends and to those in our community.” Congratulations and thanks to Joseph and Nadine for sharing their gifts to our community.

What fun it was to visit the Todd family and witness the results of their hard work and creativity. Lindsay and Stephen have created an oasis for their two girls, Raegan and Avery, at the house located at 6 Terrapin Trail. The yard features Diamond Zoysia grass with mulched beds of hydrangeas, gardenias, and ferns. Stone steps lead down to the lower yard. Towering hardwoods have been “limbed up” and stripped of ivy to create a beautiful, shaded canopy. River rock helps control the runoff while adding visual interest. The girls can run with their little dog, Bene, in the yard, climb the fort, or play on the swing. Everyone helps with the upkeep of the yard. The girls even help their parents pull the weeds. As Stephen and Lindsay agree, they are honored to receive the YOM award and acknowledge that “hard work pays off in the long run.” Congratulations!

The HOA membership would like to thank the Graves for helping to keep Phase One looking neat, tidy, and welcoming.
